We had the pleasure of recording Elliott Sharp’s Approaching the Arches of Corti last week with Judith Sherman at the American Academy of Arts and Letters. This piece is for four soprano saxophones and makes extensive use of leg muting to get some really wild sounds from our horns. The recording will be released on New World Records alongside more of Elliott’s music performed by Either/Or and JACK Quartet, so stay tuned!
A huge thanks to Elliott for inviting us to participate in his project and to Judith for such a great recording experience!
Last week we recorded half of our debut album! We are really excited to share some of the amazing music we’ve been working on, so stay tuned.
We had a blast over Memorial Day weekend recording David Claman’s piece “Liberties Taken”!
We spent last weekend in the studio recording Richard Carrick’s Harmonixity. The session was a blast and we can’t wait the share it in a month or two! A big thanks to Nicola Stemmer at 9 Lives Studios for engineering the session!
During the end of 2013 we worked with Anthony Gatto to record a draft of the last 12 minutes of his new opera “Wise Blood’. Based on the novel by Flannery O’Connor, Wise Blood is commissioned by the Minneapolis arts exhibition space, The Soap Factory. The opera will run for a projected 70 minutes, as part of an on-going film and sculpture installation made in collaboration with media artist, and University of Minnesota professor, Chris Larson. The opera will premiere in May 2015.
Performers on the recording:
Gelsey Bell, soprano
Geoffrey Landman, soprano saxophone
Kristen McKeon, alto saxophone
Erin Rogers, tenor saxophone
Zach Herchen, baritone saxophone
Will Lang, tenor trombone, bass trombone
James Rogers, euphonium, tuba
We had a great time performing at Bronx Community College last week. The concert was in their rotunda, which has an amazing sound (pictured above)! Before the concert we did a recording session for a section of Anthony Gatto’s opera Wise Blood. It’s been a pleasure working with Anthony as he develops the opera (currently scored for sax quartet, brass, and voice).
We are currently planning our next concerts.
