NTQ ends our year with a Sunday afternoon of movement and music with Ruah dance and Composer’s Voice. Curated by David Morneau, The Ruah dance crew, Stine Moen, Brenna Palughi, and Benjamin Thys, partner with the saxophonists of New Thread Quartet in the first performance of Moving Lines, a 20-min collaborative work, set to music by Erin Rogers. NTQ will take the stage of LeFrak Concert Hall at the Aaron Copland School of Music, for the premiere of two new works for saxophone quartet by Queens-based composers Luke Schwartz and Pat Muchmore. Continuing our effort to champion the works of New York-based composers, we will present two highly contrasting pieces, each sounding within a contemporary musical language. Muchmore’s Hyperoperator3 for two tenor and two baritone saxophones evokes a voluminous power full of rhythmic complexity and intensity while Schwartz’s Open Link in New Tab, for quartet + stereo playback, explores the beautiful texture of tonal improvisation with organic divergence....
