UVA video chat

We had a gerat video chat yesterday with students from the Composition & Computer Technologies program at University of Virginia’s McIntire Department of Music! In early 2018 we’ll be visiting for a 4-day residency to rehearse, perform, and record new works by them.

Wollschleger Recording

NTQ had a blast recording Scott Wollschleger’s Without World over the weekend. This 2o-minute piece is a recent commission that we premiered in mid-2016. We’re very excited to add it to our production pipeline for future releases!

Thanks once again to Jeremy Tressler at Dreamflower for the awesome job engineering our session!

Collaboration with Monte Weber

161002-monte-weber-workshop

Last weekend we kicked a new collaboration with Monte Weber! We spent an afternoon workshopping some of his compositional ideas and discussing saxophone technique. Monte shared with us his setup for live sound manipulation, using MIDI from a joystick to sample and manipulate our playing. Stay tuned for a 2017 premier!

Thanks!

NTQ 2016 Explorations

Thanks to everyone for your support at our inaugural Explorations concert! We had a blast presenting new works by Scott Wollschleger, Ryan Pratt, Diarmid Flatley, and Pat Muchmore.

Stayed tuned as we get ready for our next concert season, including a CD release concert for Elliott Sharp’s Tranzience!

We’ve finished tracking our debut album! Shooting for a release in 2016 so keep your ears open.

Elliott Sharp recording

Elliott Sharp and crew

We had the pleasure of recording Elliott Sharp’s Approaching the Arches of Corti last week with Judith Sherman at the American Academy of Arts and Letters. This piece is for four soprano saxophones and makes extensive use of leg muting to get some really wild sounds from our horns. The recording will be released on New World Records alongside more of Elliott’s music performed by Either/Or and JACK Quartet, so stay tuned!

A huge thanks to Elliott for inviting us to participate in his project and to Judith for such a great recording experience!

David Morneau Collaboration

David Morneau

NTQ is pleased to be working with David Morneau on Not Less Than the Good, a secularized morning prayer service that uses Henry David Thoreau’s Walden as the canticle text. The music will feature sax quartet, live synthesizers, and recorded sounds that include field recordings from Walden Pond and readings of selected passages of Walden. The result will be a 50-60 minute composition.

Coming Soon…
